What are the Requirements for Pallets in a Four-way storage Warehouse?
With the development of storage technology, four-way dense warehouses have gradually replaced traditional storage solutions, and become the first choice of customers due to their low cost, large storage capacity, and flexibility. As an important carrier of goods, pallets play a vital role in warehousing. So what are the requirements of four-way storage system for the pallets?
1.Pallet Material
Pallets can be roughly divided into steel pallets, wooden pallets and plastic pallets according to different materials.
Normally, wooden pallets and plastic pallets are generally used to carry goods of 1T or less, because their load-bearing capacity is limited, and dense warehouses have strict requirements on the deflection of pallets (≤20mm). Of course, there are also high-quality wooden pallets or plastic pallets with multiple tubes that have a load-bearing capacity greater than 1T, but let"s not talk about this for now. For loads exceeding 1T, we often recommend customers to give preference to steel pallets. If it is a cold storage environment, we recommend customers to choose plastic pallets, and it is best to be resistant to low temperatures as steel pallets are prone to rust in a cold storage environment and wooden pallets are prone to moisture, which makes later maintenance very troublesome and costly. If the customer requires a low price, we often recommend wooden pallets.
In addition, steel pallets often have some deformation during the production process, making it difficult to achieve consistency; plastic pallets are molded and have better consistency; wooden pallets are easily damaged during use and are also irregular in production. Therefore, when all three meet the requirements, we recommend to use of plastic pallets.

2.Pallet Style
Pallets can be roughly divided into the following types according to their styles:

Nine feet two-way entry four-way entry
We usually do not recommend the use of nine-feet pallet and the two-way entry pallet shown in the figure in four-way dense warehouse. This is related to the storage method of the rack. The pallet is deposited on two parallel tracks and the four-way shuttle is operated below it. The other types can basically be used normally.
3.Pallet size
The size of the pallet is divided into width and depth, and we will ignore the height for now. Generally, dense warehouses will have certain restrictions on the size of the pallet, such as: the width direction should not exceed 1600 (mm), the depth direction should not exceed 1500, and the larger the pallet, the more difficult it is to make a four-way shuttle. However, this requirement is not absolute. If we encounter a pallet with a width of more than 1600, we can also design a suitable four-way shuttle size by adjusting the rack beam structure. It is relatively difficult to expand in the depth direction. If it is a double-sided pallet, there can also be a flexible design plan.
In addition, for the same project, we often recommend to use only one pallet size, which is the best for equipment detection. If two types must be compatible, we also have flexible solution designs. For inventory aisles, we often recommend to store only pallets with same specification, and store pallets with different specifications in different aisles.
4.Pallet Color
We often distinguish between black, dark blue and other colors in the color of pallets. For black pallets, we need to use sensors with background suppression for detection; for dark blue pallets, this detection is more difficult, so we often use blue light sensors; other colors do not have high requirements, the brighter the color, the better the detection effect, white is the best, and dark colors become worse. In addition, if it is a steel pallet, it is recommended not to spray glossy paint on the surface of the pallet, but matte paint technology, which is better for photoelectric detection.

5.Other requirements
The gap on the upper surface of the pallet has certain requirements for the photoelectric detection of the equipment. We recommend that the gap on the upper surface of the pallet should not be greater than 5CM. Whether it is a steel pallet, a plastic pallet or a wooden pallet, of the gap is too large, it is not conducive to photoelectric detection. In addition, the narrow side of the pallet is not conducive to detection, while the wide side is easier to detect; the wider the legs on both sides of the pallet, the more conducive to detection, and the narrower the legs, the more disadvantageous.
In theory, we recommend that the height of the pallet and goods should not be less than 1m. If the floor height is designed to be too low, it will be inconvenient for personnel to enter the warehouse for maintenance. If there are special circumstances, we can also make flexible designs.
If the goods exceed the pallet, it is recommended that they should not exceed 10CM in front and back. Try to control the excess range, the smaller the better.
